Wrik Mead is Canada’s prolific poet-priest of pervert pixilation. Wrik has accumulated a unique body of work in photography, film and video that returns time and time again to themes of identity, longing, ritual and transformation. He has produced over twenty miniature narratives that are psycho-dramatic by inclination, first person narratives of desire and accommodation. In his most recent video work the narrative is stripped down, if not completely abandoned. In its place animation, digital compositing and other frame-by-frame manipulations set into motion the transformation of a male figure. They are portraits that present men in a way that they may not have seen themselves or perhaps in a way that we have never looked at them before. Is their masculinity in peril or simply updated to accommodate a broader notion of what is manly?
